1833
“The Seven Gables” House
Before 22 Union was constructed, stood a ten room house. “The Seven Gables” was built by Mr. C. N. Price after his marriage to Mary Gilmer. Their household, besides the family, in the 1850 census, listed Mr. Price as a tailor, two other men as tailors, two apprenticed young men for the tailor trade, and a boot-maker.

1860
The house was purchased by Joel Reed in 1860. This family of Reeds were much interested in gold-mining and owned several mines, one just a short distance behind their home, but there was no kinship between them and the Reed family who found gold in Cabarrus in 1799. Dr. John F. Reed, a popular physician, practiced here for many years.

The bank created bustling activity again as its operation center filled their expansion needs including space for accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, trust departments, and training rooms. The bank’s renovation added steel beams extending the theaters balcony creating a full 2nd floor, doubling the square footage of the building. During this immense renovation the late former City Council Member J.E. “Jim” Ramseur preserved the doors to the theater by removing them from the bank’s trash.

Concord National Bank merges with Citizens National, to become First Charter. In 2007 First Charter was purchased by Fifth Third Bank.

Small businesses fill out District Exchange in Concord
The District Exchange in downtown Concord is fully leased, with a majority of tenants being local and regional businesses. This marks a milestone for downtown Concord’s resurgence — blending small businesses, art and hospitality in one of the city’s landmark buildings. Mooresville’s Bae’s Burgers is opening its second location [NOW OPEN] inside the marketplace, taking over three adjoining first-floor suites to create a custom dining space. They’ll join anchor tenants Crane Coffee Co. and First-N-Flights bar.
